As you reach the front, you catch sight of the attic crawlspace's window, where a perplexed Hazel notices you, and quickly drops out of sight. Shortly after, the house starts to collapse and sink into itself like a sandcastle. Amidst the debris flying, and flames and explosions shooting out from within, you spot a figure running towards you. The roamer?!
As you back off towards the sidewalk, ready to run as fast your feet can carry you, you realize it's Hazel!
thundering crashes are heard from the house, as she reaches you, shouting "we have to get away from this house! It's going to crumble!"
You turn and run down the sidewalk, back to the street, for dear life, with Hazel close behind you. Reaching a safe distance, you both turn back to see the front door collapse into the massive decimated hole left behind; the last vestige of the horror the two of you shared, gone like the fall breeze.
In numb awe, you watch the settled wreckage, as a small child in a ghost costume runs by, somehow oblivious. Was it all a dream? you think to yourself. But it was not a dream.
"That was too close. How the Hell didn't you get cursed? I kept waiting for some big change in the place, and started thinking the roamer got you, but then I saw you outside! Lucky I found the spiders, and that hole in the wall, or I'd be dead."
You respond about the fire, and the chest's riddle.
"I guess you got lucky. Guess we both did."
You both take a second to look at the dead rubble; it sits lifelessly as if it had been demolished decades ago, but only recently set on fire.
"Well. I guess I missed prom," Hazel says with a slight chuckle. Then she turns to you.
"Hey, kid, I'll walk you home... Holy crap. I made it out because of you, burning down the whole damn place! I probably would have died in that house if you hadn't met me!"
You thank her for her contributions to the rescue effort: her plan, her knowledge of the house, and electing to stay behind, especially since it could have turned out far differently if the house had collapsed sooner.
"We made it out together. That's all that matters. And you made off with a bit of a college fund."
You decide to divide the loot fairly once you get to your home, and probably call the authorities or something, if they'll believe the story.
On the way to your home, she talks about notes around the house left by "J" that helped her survive.
"I totally would have died if it wasn't for those. I kept waiting for more, and trying to see if J was around, but there wasn't any sign of... Well, anyone. Maybe they escaped already. I really hope the roamer didn't get them. Speaking of..." she says with a grin, "you're dangerous with a candle! Those were some sick burns!"
As you walk to your door, dead leaves rustling on the ground, Hazel looks at you with a grin: "Hey, did you forget this?"
She hands you your candy bag, which had been hidden in a pocket in her uncomfortably-sized coat. "Happy Halloween."
